What affects the price of beauty and wellness services
Short answer
Prices vary because of the professional's experience, time needed, products used, location and what's bundled in. To compare fairly, ask each provider what the price includes and how long the appointment takes, rather than comparing headline numbers.
Time is usually the biggest factor
Most services are priced around how long they take. Long or thick hair, a full set of lash extensions, or a first assessment with a physiotherapist all take more time than a quick follow up, and the price reflects that.
Experience and specialization
Many salons price by stylist level. Specialists in a particular technique or hair type may charge more because of extra training. That isn't always better for you, but it often explains the gap.
Products, equipment and setting
Professional colour, specialty skincare and reformer equipment all cost money. A spa with pools and lounges has very different costs from a home studio. Mobile services may add travel time.
How to compare quotes fairly
- Ask how long the appointment will take
- Ask what's included: consultation, toning, styling, aftercare
- Ask what could change the price on the day
- Check the cancellation and correction policies
- For health services, check benefits coverage and receipt details
